Alekseev Nikolai Petrovich graduated from high school in 1961 before entering Leningrad (St. Petersburg) State University, USSR (Russia). He completed his dissertation in 1969 on the subject of cellular mechanisms of a single mechanoreceptor – the muscle spindle. His scientific research has been devoted to the study of cellular mechanisms for the functioning of various types of mechanoreceptors. He has investigated the mechanisms of generating the electrical activity of Pacini bodies. Based on the data obtained on Pacini corpuscles and muscle spindles, he co-wrote the book "Mechanoreceptors: Their functional organization" (1988). Together with Prof. Grachev I.I. he conducted a study of mammary gland sensory receptors. In 1989, he was awarded the Russian State Prize in Science and Technology for his scientific achievements. In 1991, he received the title of professor at St. Petersburg State University. He is the author of 5 books and 110 articles on the role of sensory systems in the functioning of humans and animals.
