Native Orchids of the United States and Canada is a field guide to the more than 230 native orchids found across the United States and Canada. From rarer species to orchids that even the casual hiker might stumble across, this comprehensive field guide includes:
Detailed species accounts with distribution maps, conservation status, and ecological information
Visual keys for readers new to orchid taxonomy, as well as traditional dichotomous keys

Vivid photographs and helpful identification tools make Native Orchids of the United States and Canada the definitive resource for all experience levels to discover this diverse, far-reaching, and colorful family of flowering plants.

Hal Horwitz (1940–2015) was a pediatric dentist and an avid photographer specializing in native orchids. Hal and his wife Helen were early supporters of the Native Orchid Conference and the North American Orchid Conservation Center (NAOCC). Dennis Whigham is Distinguished Emeritus Scientist at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) and Founding Director of the NAOCC, which was established as a program of the Smithsonian based at the SERC. Jay O'Neill retired after a forty-year career at SERC. He was instrumental in developing and maintaining the NAOCC and Go Orchids websites, and continues to promote NAOCC's educational initiatives. Julianne McGuinness is a contractor responsible for many aspects of NAOCC operations including partnerships, project coordination, fundraising, the newsletter, and websites.
