Rechte der Natur wurden bereits in verschiedenen Rechtsordnungen anerkannt. Die Arbeit untersucht ihre Ausgestaltung in den USA, Ecuador, Bolivien, Neuseeland und Kolumbien unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Rechte von Flüssen. Ausgehend von den gewonnenen Erkenntnissen wurden Überlegungen zur österreichischen Rechtslage angestellt. Diese deuten darauf hin, dass Rechte der Natur wesentliche Vorteile mit sich bringen, aber auch Verbesserungspotenziale für das geltende Recht aufzeigen.
