The definitive guide to the birdwatching sites of Devon and Cornwall.
The definitive guide to the birdwatching sites of Devon and Cornwall

Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are high on any UK birdwatcher’s destination wish-list, renowned for their seabirds, wintering shorebirds, propensity for rare vagrants, and the UK’s only breeding Cirl Buntings. A wealth of habitats, from wide open beaches and towering sea cliffs to Atlantic woodlands and exposed tors, ensures a wide variety of species at any time of year.

Now in its sixth edition, Where to Watch Birds in Devon and Cornwall remains the trusted site guide for birdwatching in the region. Featuring more than 80 sites, it includes information on habitats, access, when to visit, and key species to see at each site during different seasons, along with a species list, notes on the best sites accessible by public transport, best sites for those with mobility issues, and a section on the region's top birds and where to see them.

Where to Watch Birds in Devon and Cornwall is a must-take companion for any birder living in or heading to the southwest.

Sara McMahon is a Devon-based birder. She wrote Bird Watching magazine's Cornwall round-up for more than 20 years and is the co-author of Best Birdwatching Sites in Cornwall and Scilly. Kevin Rylands is a birder and naturalist living in Devon. He has worked for the RSPB for over 25 years, supporting the conservation of Chough, Cirl Bunting and Stone-curlew in particular. He is part of the Dawlish Warren Recording Group and was Devon Bird Recorder for six years.
