A collection of about 150 papers presented during ISEC-03, containing contributions on Creative structural and construction systems and materials; System integration and management; and Innovative systems of collaboration with the environment and the sustainability.
The present work contains 150 papers that were presented during ISEC-03, the 3rd International Conference on Structural and Construction Engineering, that was held in Tokuyama College of Technology, Shunan, Japan, from September 20th to 23rd, 2005.

The theme of the conference was Collaboration and Harmony of Creative Systems. The book contains selected papers concerning:

- Creative structural and construction systems and materials;

- System integration and management;

- Innovative systems of collaboration with environment and sustainability.

ISEC-03 sought for further innovation of creative systems, with emphasis on collaboration and system integration. The harmony that these innovative systems exhibit in relation to the environment is important in addressing global issues in sustainable engineering. The role of information technology brings greater opportunities for innovation and renewal of engineering systems.

The conference aimed to encourage and assist the collaboration of all kinds of structural, system and construction engineering using information technology in an environmentally friendly manner. This book contains these challenging papers.

Professor Hara, Department of Engineering, Tokuyama College of Technology, Japan, is a graduate of Ehime University, Japan.  He is a Committee member of  ACI-ASCE334 and IASS Group 3.  His research interests are the analysis of the shell structure and the computational mechanics.
