A modern approach to teaching students how to think like ecologists.
Ecology in a Changing World teaches students to think like ecologists, developing their quantitative skills and illuminating connections between research data and real-world phenomena. By examining ecology through the lens of the Anthropocene, this innovative book presents its subject in a manner that is both contemporary and relevant. An integrated media package enriches students’ learning through activities involving research-based case studies and easy-to-assign, quantitative, skills-based assessments.

Michael P. Marchetti is the Fletcher Jones Endowed Chair of Biology at St. Mary’s College of California. Michael holds an MSc and PhD in ecology from the University of California, Davis, and a BSc in biology and chemistry from Bucknell University. He has over 30 years of experience working on aquatic ecosystems, conservation, invasion biology, and food web ecology. He has worked in California, Oregon, Nevada, Mexico, Hawai’i, and New Zealand and has authored numerous publications. Michael also coauthored Invasion Ecology and Protecting Life on Earth. Julie L. Lockwood is professor of ecology, evolution, and natural resources at Rutgers University, where she currently serves as the director of the Institute of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences. Julie holds a PhD in zoology from the University of Tennessee and an MSc and BSc in biology from Georgia Southern University. She oversees a research program that encompasses biodiversity conservation, invasion science, and climate change. She is a fellow of the Ecological Society of America and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Beyond publishing research papers, she coauthored Avian Invasions and Invasion Ecology and coedited Biotic Homogenization and Coastal Conservation. Martha F. Hoopes is professor of biology at Mount Holyoke College, where she teaches ecology, conservation biology, and biostatistics. Martha holds a PhD in ecology from the University of California, Davis, and earned a BA in English and physics from Williams College. Her research focuses on spatial interactions in invasions and conservation biology. She has authored numerous scholarly papers and book chapters, and coauthored Invasion Ecology and several chapters in Metacommunities: Spatial Dynamics and Ecological Communities (Holyoak, Leibold, and Holt, eds).
