Advancements in modern technology to the Internet of Things (IoT) 4.0 have led to the development of low−power electronic devices such as flexible and wearable electronics, and autonomous sensors. The functional operation of these electronic devices has necessitated the development of autonomous energy harvesting systems that can generate power on demand. Energy harvesting devices utilizing the functionality of piezoelectric materials are the most promising methods to harness local ambient energy due to the ubiquitous presence of vibrations. For efficient energy harvesting, tailored piezoelectric materials with a well−defined structure, composition, and morphology are required.

To this end, this work presents electrospun anisotropic morphologies of potassium sodium niobate (KxNa1-xNbO3, KNN) and bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3, BFO) as two materials that carry the promise of replacing lead−based piezoelectric materials. In the case of KNN, the piezoelectric performance of the material was enhanced by modifying the phase boundary of the material. In the case of BFO, the notable long−term performance of the fabricated piezoelectric nanogenerators has been elucidated. In summary, the results obtained in this thesis contribute significantly to expanding the understanding of the tailored anisotropic morphologies of KNN and BFO systems for their vibrational energy harvesting characteristics.
