Since ancient times, the sky functions as a symbolic space where - beyond fixed ideas of time, space and identity - the relation between the individual and the cosmos, as well as related fundamental questions of human existence and concepts of values, are negotiated. In this way, the ethical approach to the sky raises a range of questions, embedded in the context of interdisciplinary fields of research and cultural horizons. Besides the examination of these questions, the aesthetic realization of such perspectives is of central importance. Scientific as well as religious texts that grapple with these problems and use the sky as a "projection screen" unfold an enormous literary-rhetoric power. The study of the ethical implications of such potentials is the essential aim of this volume.
Prof. Dr. Harald Lesch lehrt seit 1995 Theoretische Astrophysik an der LMU München und seit 2002 Naturphilosophie an der Hochschule für Philosophie in München.
Bernd Oberdorfer ist Professor für Evangelische Theologie an der Universität Augsburg.
Prof. Dr. Stephanie Waldow lehrt Neuere deutsche Literaturwissenschaft mit dem Schwerpunkt Ethik an der Universität Augsburg.
Dr. Aura Heydenreich ist Dozentin am Department für Germanistik und Komparatistik / Lehrstuhl für Neuere deutsche Literaturgeschichte der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.
