Fiber Lasers provides an overview of research results-from very basic to the most advanced-in the field of fiber laser technology. Both research and industrial activities in this area demonstrate important breakthroughs over the last 10 years. Major applications of fiber laser technology are reviewed, including continuous wave and pulse regimes, as well as their state-of-the-art performance, scientific challenges, and limitations. This book provides a more general overview of fiber laser technology, addressing the science, technical applications, and market numbers. * Provides a general overview of fiber laser technology and the physical aspects of the medium* Features examples for up-to-date technical applications* Outlines the technical limitations for performance evaluation* Covers continuous wave and pulse regimes, as well as their performance, scientific challenges, and limitations

Thierry Chartier earned a doctorate in physics from the University of Rennes 1 in 1997 at the National School of Applied Sciences and Technology (Enssat) in Lannion. In 1998, he was recruited as a lecturer at the University of Rouen in Coria laboratory where his research areas include polarization and nonlinear effects in optical fibers and fiber lasers with short pulses. In 2003 he joined the laboratory Foton Enssat to develop research activities in the field of optical fiber strongly nonlinear and fiber lasers. David Pureur completed his PhD thesis in Physics at the University of Lille in 1997. He became a Research Associate at Stanford University shortly in 1997.He has conducted R & D activities within the private sector since 1998 at both Highwave Optical Technologies and Quantel. He was recruited as Associate Research Director at the CNRS in 2006. He is the President and co-founder of PERFOS technical center since 2009. His research interests include optical fibers, components for optical communications, power fiber lasers, nonlinear effects and fiber optic sensors.
