This guide contains details of 180 small-scale, eco-friendly places to stay, many of which are on working organic farms. The places included vary from the highly luxurious to basic camp sites, with the common feature being their authentic, sustainable, small-scale approach.
This holiday guide is co-produced by the European Centre for Ecological and Agricultural Tourism (ECEAT), which promotes sustainable tourism on organic farms and other small-scale, eco-friendly places to stay in beautiful natural surroundings, often well off the beaten track. The book gives details of approximately 180 places to stay, many of which are on working organic farms. It lists which farms have forest gardens, use permaculture and bio-dynamic principles, and have buildings renovated using environmentally-friendly materials. A large number of the places listed have a variety of outdoor activities and creative programmes on offer - either run by themselves or situated nearby - such as trekking, riding, cycling, bird-watching, painting, photography and courses on topics such as organic and bio-dynamic farming and permaculture. The places included vary from the highly luxurious to basic camp sites with outdoor compost toilets and a cold water tap. Their common feature is their authentic, sustainable, small-scale character, a friendly and personal approach and a healthy natural environment.
