In these proceedings of the 24th International Conference on Modelling, Monitoring and Management of Air Pollution, international academics and air pollution practitioners contribute to the evolving understanding of the science and policy contexts of air pollution. The management of air pollution is one of the most challenging problems facing the international community. A particular strength of the series has been the attention given to regulatory and, market solutions to air pollution management. The Air Pollution series of conferences has consistently acknowledged that science remains the key to identifying the nature and scale of air pollution impacts and reaffirmed that science is essential in the formulation of policy relevant information for regulatory decision making. The conference series also acknowledged, at a very early stage, that science alone will not improve a polluted atmosphere. The scientific knowledge derived from well-designed studies needs to be allied with further technical and economic studies in order to ensure cost effective and efficient mitigation. In turn, the science, technology and economic outcomes are necessary but not sufficient.

ContentsA critical review of the robustness of the UK government's Air Quality Plan and expected compliance dates; Optimization of sensor networks for the estimation of atmospheric pollutants sources; Simulation with the finite element method of air pollution with carbon monoxide in the City of Arequipa (Peru); The effect of velocity on the dispersion of pollutants in a hypothetical arctic open-pit mine; Air pollutant emission reduction effects of the Cap-and-Trade System in South Korea; Using CALPUFF to determine the environmental impact of a coal mine open pit; Parametric evaluation of emission savings potential based on a mobility demand model; Inventory of highly resolved temporal and spatial volatile organic compounds emission in China; PM10 emissions due to storage in coal piles in a mining industrial area; A social and spatial analysis of emissions from private vehicle use in Great Britain; PM2.5/PM10 relationship in the Metropolitan Area of Valle de Aburra, Colombia; Comparative analysis of the characteristics of atmospheric pollution in Beijing before and after the APEC conference; The work environment quality at the shaft furnace of a crude lead tapping and refining process; Diffusive sampling of air pollutants in US basins with oil and gas development; Diesel emissions from Euro II/III buses of Bogota's urban transport system: the challenge is not reducing mass, but counting particles; Identifying the Ozone Weekend Effect in the air quality of the northern Andean region of Ecuador; Study of the airborne behavior of cedar pollen and its allergen released from cedar forests in the Kanto plain of Japan; Relationship between quality of ambient air and respiratory diseases in the Polish population; Impact of air pollution on pregnancy duration, birth outcomes and children's health: Polish Mother and Child Cohort; Correlation of PM2.5 and meteorological variables in Ontario cities: statistical downscaling method coupled with an artificial neural network; Household air pollution in South African low-income settlements: a case study; A new differentially weighted operator splitting Monte Carlo method for aerosol dynamics; Characterization and source identification of ambient volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in a heavy pollution episode in Beijing, ChinaAuthor index
