This double CD contains the voices of approximately 190 species of owls, representing about 90 percent of the world's species and including many for the first time. It has been produced to accompany "Owls: A Guide to Owls of the World" by Claus Konig, Friedhelm Weick and Jan-Hendrick Becking.
Richard Ranft is Curator of Wildlife Sounds at the National Sound Archive, London (which forms part of the British Library). He is an acknowledged authority on bird sounds, and has published several compilations of his own recordings. Claus Konig is Professor of Zoology at Stuttgart University, and a Director of the Museum of Natural HIstory in Stuttgart. He has studied owls for over 30 years and has described three new species of Neotropical owls to science. He has written or co-authored 15 books on birds or mammals. He has also written numerous magazine articles and made several films for television.
