A comprehensive guide to the birds of this beautiful Himalayan country.

Nepal has a huge bird list with more than 900 species. Star species include Ibisbill in the high rivers and streams, Himalayan Monal in the forests, and Lesser Florican in the grasslands, along with a host of other regional scarcities and palearctic migrants. Added to the staggering avian diversity is a rich mammal fauna including Indian Rhinoceros, Tiger, Red Panda, Asian Elephant and Leopard, making Nepal one of world's great wildlife-watching destinations.

Every species of bird recorded in Nepal is covered in this fantastic field guide. More than 790 species are featured with illustrations and concise text covering essential information for quick and easy reference., covering voice, habits, habitats, altitudinal range, distribution and status. The text is accompanied by accurate distribution maps.

This book is the definitive field guide to the birds of this magical slice of the Himalayas, and an essential addition to the backpack of any visitor.

Richard Grimmett, Carol Inskipp and Tim Inskipp are names synonymous with birdwatching in the Indian Subcontinent. All three are widely travelled in Asia and have contributed to numerous field guides to the constituent parts of the region. Hem Sagar Baral is a leading expert on the birds of southern Asia. For four years, he worked as a naturalist at Royal Chitwan National Park before completing a diploma in geology at Tribhuvan University and then earning a PhD for his work on the lowland grassbirds in Nepal. Until 2023 Hem was the ZSL's representative in Nepal.
