Process Intensification
Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH
978-3-527-32005-9 (ISBN)
This first authoritative source book to rationalize PI gathers the hitherto fragmented literature and critically analyzes the data, methodologies, and mechanisms involved. In two handy volumes, this practical book covers process intensification and miniaturization, bioprocess intensification, sustainable energy technology, and integrated intensified processes, among others. A focused source of information and guide to PI.
Galip Akay holds the established chair of Chemical and Process Engineering at Newcastle University. He has an interdisciplinary training and research background with over 250 cited publications in chemical engineering, mathematics, chemistry, materials, surface, interface, environmental, energy science and technology and more recently, catalysis, biology, biotechnology and tissue engineering, medicine. He is a graduate of chemical engineering and gained his PhD in Manchester. He subsequently taught and researched in chemistry and materials science before going into industrial research with Unilever Research Port Sunlight Laboratory where he discovered the phenomenon based process intensifications which resulted in more than 30 patents assigned to Unilever. Ten years ago, he returned to academia. At Exeter and Nottingham Universities, he was appointed to his present position. Volker Hessel, born 1964, was appointed Vice Director of R&D and Head of the Chemical Process Technology Department at the Institute for Microtechnology Mainz GmbH (IMM) in 2002. His department focuses on mixing, fine chemistry, and energy generation by fuel processing using microstructured reactors. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Mainz on organic chemistry in 1993, investigating structure-property relations of supramolecular structures. After having been appointed Group Leader for Microreaction Technology at the IMM in 1996, he became head of the newly founded Department of Microreaction Technology in 1999. He is author of more than 90 peer-reviewed publications in the field of organic chemistry and chemical micro process engineering, 200 papers in total, three books and 15 patents.
