Since the late 1920s, the theory formulated by Niels Bohr and his colleagues at Copenhagen has been the dominant interpretation of quantum mechanics. Yet an alternative interpretation by David Bohm and his colleagues in the 1950s, explains the experimental data equally well. This book discusses why Bohm's point of view is more productive.
Since the late 1920s, the theory formulated by Niels Bohr and his colleagues at Copenhagen has been the dominant interpretation of quantum mechanics. Yet an alternative interpretation, rooted in the work of Luis de Broglie and reformulated and extended by David Bohm and his colleagues in the 1950s, explains the experimental data equally well. Through a detailed historical and sociological study of debates within and between opposing camps, and the reception given by each theory, Cushing showed that despite the pre-eminence of the Copenhagen view, the Bohms interpretation cannot be ignored. In this book, the author discusses why Bohm's point of view is more productive. The properties of solitary objects, which he discusses, contradict the Copenhagen's Illusions, but the results are proved experimentally..

Preface; Foreword; Instead of Introduction: In Classical Physics There is No Analogy of Particle's Interference. When a Quantum-Particle Passes Only One of the Two Opened Slits, the Interference Disappears; Photon & Soliton: The Expressions for the Energy of the Photon & the Energy of Classical Electromagnetic Waves Are Completely Different & Cannot be Derived From One Another; Uncertainties: When a Monochromatic Wave is Passed Through a Shutter with a Very Short Opening Time, the Light After the Shutter is No More Monochromatic; Initial Conditions & Probabilities: Spontaneous Decays Are Chance Events. They Do Not Depend on Prehistory or Any Other Factors; Stimulated Gamma Quanta Emission: The Relations Between the Coefficients of Einstein for Stimulated Emission & Absorption Are Valid for all Transitions; Gamma Lasers & Very Narrow Mossbauer Gamma Line: It is Impossible to Build a Gamma Laser Using a Transition Between a Very Long Living & a Very Short Living Excited State; Electromagnetic Energy Density at Low & High Temperature: Forbidden Transitions in Gaseous Nebulae Emit Photons Only Because of Inverse Population; The Science is Screened Behind the Observable: Only Observable Quantities Are Real & Have a Meaning; The Common Wave Function is Screened Behind the Mathematical Ossibilities: The Wave Function is Not Real But Statistical; Quantum Physics & Classical Thermodynamics: Quantum Physics as a Complete Science; Index.
