The third volume of the series "Progress in Physical Chemistry" comprises 27 articles, most of them with review character, written by the members of the Priority Program (SPP) 1145 of the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The Guest Editor Prof. Dr. Franz Michael Dolg holds the Chair of Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Cologne. From 2003 to 2010 he was coordinator and spokesman of SPP 1145.
