The process of academisation in occupational therapy is progressing steadily, and even though bachelor's and master's graduates will continue to be outnumbered by certified occupational therapists for a long time to come, their presence at occupational therapy conferences, in professional journals and in the workplace is now clearly noticeable. This development and the biographical background of the authors as long-standing certified occupational therapists on the path to academisation prompted this study to examine how these long-standing certified occupational therapists experience the academisation process of their profession.

Catrin Schmid, occupational therapist bc (NL), studied at Hogeschool Zuyd, Heerlen; occupational therapy focus 1992-2009: neurology/psychiatry/orthopaedics/prevention; 2009-2016 teaching, 2012-2016 technical college management; since 2016 therapeutic management in a Cologne practice for occupational therapy.
