Environmental and Health Impacts of Nitrogen Dioxide Pollution: Understanding Exposure, Risks, and Mitigation offers a comprehensive examination of nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) as a critical air pollutant, exploring its sources, chemistry, and formation. The book explores the profound human health and environmental consequences associated with NO₂ pollution. The text evaluates the health costs and benefits of reducing NO₂ levels, especially in urban centers, highlighting the positive impacts on community well-being and healthcare costs. Through epidemiological studies, it illustrates the long-term implications of NO₂ exposure on vulnerable populations and addresses the significant environmental impacts on ecosystems and biodiversity. The book highlights innovative approaches, such as utilizing vegetation to reduce urban NO₂ pollution, and examines the interplay between nitrogen dioxide and climate change, projecting future scenarios. Furthermore, it addresses socioeconomic disparities in NO₂ exposure, linking environmental justice to public health equity. The authors advocate for comprehensive mitigation strategies, emphasizing the importance of community engagement and public health initiatives in combating nitrogen dioxide pollution. In summary, this book serves as a vital resource for researchers and professionals, underscoring the urgent need for collaborative efforts to mitigate the impacts of nitrogen dioxide pollution on both human health and the environment.

Flavio Manoel Rodrigues da Silva Junior is an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) and the President of the Brazilian Society of Ecotoxicology (2019-2025). He coordinates the Postgraduate Program in Health Sciences at FURG and leads the Laboratory of Pharmacological and Toxicological Assays, where he oversees research groups focused on Environmental Health. He also coordinates the Southern Air Project, a Brazilian initiative assessing air pollution issues in southern Brazil. His research addresses air pollution, environmental contamination, and their health impacts, with multiple projects funded by government research funding agencies. Flavio holds a PhD in Physiological Sciences from FURG carried out in partnership with the University of Lisbon. Ronan Adler Tavella is a postdoctoral researcher in the ARIES Project at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) and coordinates the "Air Pollution: Environmental and Health Impacts" Working Group at the Brazilian Society of Ecotoxicology. He is affiliated with the Laboratory of Economics, Health, and Environmental Pollution (LESPA) at UNIFESP, where his research investigates the relationship between air pollution and health and environmental outcomes. He holds a PhD in Health Sciences from the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) and has postdoctoral experience at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), where he focused on ecotoxicology. His expertise includes the application of advanced methods, such as data science and machine learning, to evaluate the health and environmental impacts of atmospheric pollutants.
