Peter Elsner is Professor Emeritus of Dermatology, Friedrich Schiller University, Jena University Hospital, Jena, Germany. His research interests include occupational dermatoses, contact dermatitis, dermatotoxicology, dermatopharmacology and non-invasive methods in dermatology. He participates in research nationally and internationally in dermatoepidemiology, as well as in clinical studies in contact and hand dermatitis.
Professor Elsner received his medical degree from Wuerzburg University, Germany. After completing his residency in dermatology and allergology at the Wuerzburg University Hospital, Germany, he received his lectureship ( Habilitation ) and worked as a research dermatologist at the Department of Dermatology, University of California San Francisco, under the leadership of Professor Howard Maibach, one of the founders of the ICDRG. Thereafter, he was appointed as senior physician at the Department of Dermatology, University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland under the leadership of Professor Günter Burg, before he was appointed Professor of Dermatology and Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the University Hospital Jena, Germany.
Professor Elsner is a Board Member of the German Society of Dermatology (DDG) and is currently President of the International Society for Dermatology in the Tropics (ISDT).
