The Mud Cakes can be used effectively alongside the companion story book The Treasure Hunt and accompanying guide, Little Brains Love to Talk. It is an ideal resource for educators, speech and language therapists working with young children, as well as for parents looking to support their child’s language skills.
The Mud Cakes invites children to go on an adventure with the minibeasts Dot and Dizzy to find their friends and look for a box of exciting playthings. Using the tins in the Playbox, the four friends make mud cakes and have a surprise party, celebrating by singing the mud song together.
This beautifully illustrated story book is designed to engage young children through a rich cast of characters and a playful narrative, whilst sharing essential positional words, including ‘behind’ and ‘below.’ The book employs a rotation scheme and repeatable actions, which are innately attractive to young children, and the concluding song is accompanied by professional music, available on the companion website. On each page, a tiny hidden fantasy minibeast can also be found, which practitioners can encourage children to identify and describe.
