Microbiome in Head and Neck Cancer: Pathogenesis, Diagnosis and Therapeutic Implications, Volume 169 in the Advances in Immunology series, presents an authoritative exploration on how microbial communities contribute to the initiation, progression, and treatment of head and neck cancers. Chapters highlight The Microbiome of the Head and Neck Region, Overview Head and Neck Microbiota and the Factors Influencing the Head and Neck Microbiome, Mechanistic Pathways of Dysbiosis in Cancer Development, Oral Microbiota and OPMDs, Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders (OPMDs): An Overview, Oral Microbiota and Oral Cancer, Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC): An Overview, and much more.

Additional chapters cover the Role of the Oral Microbiome in Oral Cancer (OSCC), Microbiome as a Prognostic Indicator in Oral Cancer, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Applications, Microbiome-Based Diagnostic Approaches, Modulating the Head and Neck Microbiome for Cancer Prevention, Microbiome-Targeted Therapeutics in Head and Neck Cancer, Artificial Intelligence in Microbiome Data Analysis: Applications in Head and Neck Cancer, and Challenges and Future Directions in Head & Neck Microbiome Research.

Dr. Akhilanand Chaurasia is a Professor at King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, India, specializing in Maxillofacial Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging. His expertise encompasses CBCT, MRI, CT, USG, digital radiology, 3D printing, and AI-based diagnostics. With over 250 publications, including high-impact journals like Lancet Oncology and Lancet Digital Health, he is a recognized researcher and peer reviewer in oral oncology. Dr. Chaurasia has served as Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor, and editorial board member for leading journals such as the Journal of Dental Research and Scientific Reports. His numerous awards include the IADR Star Network Fellowship and the Union for International Cancer Control Fellowship. He holds multiple fellowships and distinctions in dentistry and radiology, and his work significantly advances the integration of imaging, AI, and 3D printing in maxillofacial diagnostics and treatment. Professor Mahvash Tavassoli earned her DPhil in Biochemistry in 1987 from the University of Sussex, focusing on cellular senescence and immortalisation. She pursued postdoctoral research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre, studying the C-Myc oncogene, and later returned to Sussex to investigate EGFR receptor family kinases in breast and ovarian cancer. In 1990, she received a young career Research Fellowship from Cancer Research UK to study c-erbB2 signalling. Appointed Lecturer at King’s College London in 1995, she became Professor of Molecular Oncology in 2007, leading research on early detection and treatment of head and neck cancers. Her work explores radiotherapy resistance, tumour hypoxia, and cancer cell interactions, utilizing advanced 3D models. Additionally, she collaborates on developing the cytotoxic drug apoptin with the Chemistry Department. Her research is supported by various grants, fostering international collaborations and innovations in cancer treatment
