Highlights specialized infection control for community paramedicine, this edition details proper vaccine usage, equipment disinfection, and work restrictions to improve patient care. Addressing unique challenges and CDC concerns on training inconsistencies, this book sets clear standards for EMS providers in CP/MIH practices.
In the new edition of Infection Control Policies for Community Paramedicine and MIH, Katherine West, expert and international speaker on infection control, explains how good infection control practices, vaccines and immunizations, cleaning and disinfection of equipment and work restriction guidelines can assist EMS providers and improve patient care. Infection control practices are very different in community paramedicine/mobile integrated healthcare (CP/MIH) practice. It is important to have proper training to understand the differences. In October 2024, the CDC stated that there is a lack of training and consistency in CP/MIH programs.

Katherine H. West, BSN, MSEd, DICO-C, has worked in the field of infection control since 1975. She lectures both nationally and internationally and has published books, videos, and articles on issues important to infection control efforts. She has served as a consultant to the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, and she has served as an education specialist for the National Institutes of Health. West has also served as a consultant to the US Public Health Service, Federal Occupational Health. West was voted a “Hero in Infection Control and Prevention” for 2006 from the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) for her work in the field of infection control and EMS.
