Understanding of the relationship between chronic pain and disability - particularly different lived experiences of chronic pain - is critical to developing effective management strategies and improving quality of life for those affected. The Social Security Administration, which administers programs to monetarily compensate and supplement the incomes of people with disabilities, funded a National Academies workshop in April 2025 to explore the functional effects and disability determination implications of chronic pain.
This Proceedings of a Workshop highlights the presentations and discussions that occurred at the workshop.
