Historically, cord blood was considered medical waste and, therefore, discarded along with the placenta. However, in recent decades, it has been shown to be a valuable resource of hematopoietic stem cells capable of curing serious hematologic, oncologic, and immune system diseases, both in pediatric and adult life.This book explores, through a survey of a sample of pregnant women, the level of information received in birth coaching classes on the possibility of cord blood donation. The aim is to bring out awareness, critical issues in the information pathway and potential for improvement, with an eye toward the future of donation.
