Reinaldo Oria is a distinguished professor in the field of Histology, Pharmacology and Infectious Diseases, with a strong focus on tissue healing mechanisms and neuroscience research. He earned his Veterinary Medicine degree from the State University of Ceara in 1992 and pursued further academic pursuits that cemented his expertise. His pursuit of knowledge led him to complete a sandwich doctorate in Pharmacology from the Federal University of Ceara, which included training at the prestigious University of Virginia Center for Global Health and Infectious Diseases Division under the guidance of Dr. Richard L. Guerrant from 2002 to 2004. Dr. Oria also completed a research fellowship at the University of Virginia in 2008 and 2017. Since 2005, Oria has served as a dedicated professor in the Department of Morphology at the Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of Ceara (UFC), where he imparts his knowledge to students through teaching Human Histology and Embryology. He’s been instrumental in advancing research through his involvement in the Image Processing Nucleus (NEMPI) and his role as the founder and coordinator of the Tissue Healing Biology Laboratory (LABICONTE) at the UFC Biomedicine Center. Oria’s research interests are wide-ranging and impactful, spanning topics like apolipoprotein E, metallopharmaceuticals, mercury intoxication, and micronutrients in various animal models and clinical studies. He has shown his commitment to academic leadership by steering the PhD Graduate Program in Medical Sciences and the Graduate Program in Morphofunctional Sciences, both at the Faculty of Medicine / UFC. Notably, his participation in the INCT Steering Committee on Brain Health underscores his influence on the national stage of neuroscience research. He is an accomplished academic who excels in teaching and research. His expertise in the field of tissue healing and neuroscience has had a significant impact on the scientific community in Brazil and beyond. João O. Malva, PhD received his PhD in Cell Biology at the University of Coimbra 1997. He is a Principal Investigator at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra (FMUC). He is the Director of the Project Management Unit and Science Coordinator as well as the Secretary of the Assembly at FMUC. Dr. Malva is also the Vice-Director of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute and the Science Coordinator for the consortium “Ageing@Coimbra – European Reference Site for Active and Healthy Ageing. He is a past President of the Portuguese Society for Neuroscience (2007-2011). His research activity has been focused on Neuroscience with relevant contributions in areas such as neuroprotection, neuroinflammation and neurogenesis in brain repair. He has significant international visibility, including a nomination as full member to EDAB (European DANA Alliance for the Brain). Carlos Alexandre Netto is Professor of Biochemistry of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, UFRGS, in Brazil. Graduated in Medicine, he decided for the academic career and took his MsC and PhD Degrees on Biochemistry at the same University, and spent two years of Post Doctoral training at the Institute of Psychiatry at the University of London. His academic contribution includes more than 250 scientific papers, and supervision 80 + MsC, PhD and Post-Docs on Neuroscience, mainly on neurobiology of memory, brain ischemia and neuro-protection, neonatal hypoxia-ischemia and spinal cord lesion and stem cells. He was president of the Brazilian Society for Neurosciences and Behavior, SBNeC, and Regional Secretary of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science, SBPC. Dr Netto was President of UFRGS from 2008 to 2016 and is Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, ABC, since 2014.
