This book provides in-depth insights into the pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies of biofilm induced infections. It presents strong interdisciplinary viewpoints on infection biology, pharmacology, drug discovery, diagnosis and therapeutics.

The rising burden of antibiotic resistance induced by bacterial biofilm formations makes it imperative to understand the root cause of infection. Hence, it is necessary to enhance clinical and non-clinical understanding of biofilm development and its role in infectious diseases. This book provides detailed information on the role of biofilm formation in various diseases including brief descriptions of the molecular mechanisms and contributing factors. This book also discusses the therapeutic strategies for reducing biofilm induced infection as well as the issues with the present treatment options. Detailed discussions on the role of bacterial biofilms in dental disease, tonsilitis, tuberculosis, typhoid, endocarditis, ulcer, bone infections, urinary tract infections, chronic wound infections and cancer have been presented individually in chapters 6-15. Collectively this book serves as a fundamental yet up-to-date guide on the implications and challenges of bacterial biofilm induced chronic infections.

This book is primarily targeted at researchers, undergraduate and postgraduate students in departments of microbiology / biotechnology with interest in bacterial infection, biofilm development, drug resistance, disease chronicity, biomonitoring, therapeutics etc etc. It will also be of interest to clinicians dealing with bacterial infection and industrialists who aim to produce specific antibiofilm agents.
