The book has three sections:
- Part 1: Preliminary Information contains background information on human subject research and a brief history of the IRB system.
-Part 2: The Full Committee IRB Meeting focuses on the research proposal review process.
-Part 3: Specific Topics covers advertising for research, conflict of interest, qualitative methods, informed consent, research involving children and prisoners, and deception of research subjects

Robert Amdur was a member and Chairman of the IRB at Dartmouth College/Dartmouth Hitchcock Center for several years. Dr. Amdur currently focuses on advancing medicine in the field of radiation oncology.
