Many psychotropic drugs are prescribed for children and adolescents on the basis of their efficacy in adults, since controlled studies in the corresponding age groups have often not been carried out or reported. Information is, however, available, and has now been brought together in an easy-to-use form, in this child and adolescent version of the "Clinical Handbook of Psychotropic Drugs". Designed to fill a need for a comprehensive but compact and easy-to-use reference, specifically for psychiatrists, psychologists, physicians, nurses and other mental health professionals dealing with children and adolescents, this version summarizes the latest information from the published literature (scientific data, controlled clinical trials and case reports), and clinical experience in compact and easy-to-use charts and bulleted lists for each class of psychotropic drug used in children and adolescents.
Structured similarly to the "Clinical Handbook for Psychotropic Drugs", this version includes, for each class of drugs, both monograph statements on use in children and adolescents and approved indications, as well as the available data concerning off-label indications, findings from open and double-bind studies concerning doses, adverse effects, and other considerations in these age groups.
