Grounded within traditional American Indian spiritual contexts, Gifts from the Sacred Circle is an evidence-based program created specifically to serve Native children and families impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
Grounded within traditional American Indian spiritual contexts, Gifts from the Sacred Circle is an evidence-based program created specifically to serve Native children and families impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (known as FASD). This unique program assists and strengthens families as they care for their FASD-affected children as well as themselves. And because it is not tribal-specific, it is culturally meaningful and can be successfully integrated into any tribal setting. With easy-to-implement lessons for parents and caregivers, the program identifies the cultural strengths and resiliency factors that promote success as a caregiver to an FASD-affected child.
Gifts from the Sacred Circle includes contributions from Native oral traditions and printed sources. Successful outcomes have been reported from field testing completed in two urban Indian communities and three reservation communities.
The complete curriculum includes a Facilitator's Guide, a Parent Resource Book, and a Toolkit with materials that help connect and extend the learning experiences into the home and community.
