The authors discuss each diagnostic problem as they would in a face-to-face consultation, taking the reader step-by-step through the reasoning involved in differential evaluation of each specimen. They also provide references. The Second Edition domenstrates the wide-ranging diagnostic applications of immunohistochemistry and molecular techniques such as flow cytometry, in situ hybridization (ISH), and the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Four new chapters - the eye, the ear, the penis and nonneoplastic bone diseases - have been added to the Second Edition and most chapters from the original edition have been extensively rewritten.
The updated coverage includes detailed information on neoplasms and other disease entities that have recently been identified by surgical pathologists, as well as on new infectious diseases, conditions associated with AIDS, effects of hormone therapy and cancer therapy and the biopsy diagnosis of organ transplant rejection. Coverage of many important entities described in the original edition has been greatly expanded for the Second Edition.
