Profiles the research of Dr Elizabeth Burns, of Ohio State University, on the integration of content related to addictions into nursing curricula, and Dr Eleanor Sullivan, of the University of Kansas, whose programme of research focuses on alcohol and drug dependency, especially among nurses.
While nursing research continues to grow in importance both in practice and education, it presents a special challenge for the classroom. This video series is designed as a medium for teaching research, offering viewers a unique perspective on current nursing research, and illustrating its process, practice and importance. Each production in the series profiles prominent nurse researchers who detail the goals, methods, outcomes and implications of their long-term research. Each volume features timely and interesting research in an inviting presentation that instils an appreciation for nursing research that reflects its increased emphasis in improving health care; a brief personal introduction to the researcher, biographical profile, goals of the research, a summary of the research findings and implications for future research provide viewers with an understanding of the research process and topics presented in each video. The series introduces researchers as real people, and portrays their research as ongoing and tangible, providing students with a solid understanding of what research is. The third volume of the cameo series features Elizabeth M.
Burns, RSM, RN, PhD, FAAN, Professor in the Department of Life Span Process in the College of Nursing, and Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at the College of Medicine at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Burns is director of a project for curriculum development in addiction for undergraduate and graduate nursing students and faculty. She is currently principal investigator and director of a 5-year US Department of Health and Human Services NIAAA/NIDA project "Faculty Fellows Development in Research and Teaching Related to Addictions Nursing". Volume 3 also examines the research of Eleanor J. Sullivan, RN, PhD, FAAN, Dean and Professor of the School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Centre in Kansas City, Kansas. Dr. Sullivan also directs a 5-year faculty development project funded by NIAAA/NIDA, and is the first nurse selected by Secretary Lewis Sullivan for membership on the National Advisory Council of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Her programme of research focuses on alcohol and drug dependency, especially among nurses.
The comparisons derived are a definitive step in identifying how impaired nurses differ from their peers.
