Since the last edition, several new disease entities have been recognized, new drugs developed and new treatment regimes put into practice. This book is designed to assist the dentist when confronted with a patient suffering from a certain condition and is under treatment with a certain drug.
Since this book appeared five years ago, several new disease entities have been recognized, new drugs developed and new treatment regimes put into practice. It is designed to assist the dentist when confronted with a patient suffering from a certain condition and under treatment with a certain drug. The contents have been laid out alphabetically in two sections. The first lists diseases and conditions likely to be encountered and the second, drugs which the patient may be taking. The former are given under their proper (medical) titles with their colloquial names cross-referenced to them. The drugs in the latter section are set out under their pharmacological titles with proprietary names (GB and US) similarly cross-referenced. The selection is based on three principles: firstly, diseases of which the sufferers may be at hazard in the course of dental treatment either by reason of the disease itself or its treatment; secondly, communicable diseases where special precautions should be taken to protect dentist staff and other patients; and lastly, a general group with or without oral manifestations, whose names may crop up in taking a medical history.
