Goldberg and Medicine Man Jay Gutierrez, and learn how you too can access this simple, safe, and effective lost art!
Did you know that for thousands of years people have been treating pain, injuries, and disease with low-radioactive stones? Now you have access to the same lost art! "e;The Hormesis Effect: The Miraculous Healing Power of Radioactive Stones"e; may well be one of the most important books you will ever read. The U.S. is in desperate need of a health revolution: cancer has now surpassed heart disease as the number one killer, affecting nearly one out of every two Americans. But Jay Gutierrez, noted Native American healer and CEO of Night Hawk Minerals in Pritchett, Colorado, has a solution. As told by award-winning New York psychoanalyst, acclaimed holistic health consultant, and author Jane G. Goldberg, Ph.D., Jay has rediscovered a forgotten ancient science that was once well-known to our prehistoricancestors: the healing power of low-level radioactivity. The concept of using low-dose radiation for therapeutic purposes, called in medical literature "e;radiation hormesis,"e; has 100 years of solid scientific research behind it, and thousands of medical studies to support it. The application of low-level radiation promises to save countless lives, as well as millions of dollars in medical bills, as it has already done through Jay's implementation. Radiation hormesis is easy, affordable, and highly effective. If you're like most people, you're afraid of radiation, and all it implies. Yet, in other countries all over the world, millions of people have benefitted from using low-level radiation on everything from tennis elbow, joint pain and arthritis, to far more serious illnesses such as multiple sclerosis, spinal meningitis, autism, stroke, macular degeneration, heart disease and cancer. Jay's unique contribution has been to find an inexpensive delivery system that brings this powerful, proven healing modality to all of us, within the comfort of our own homes: low-level radioactive natural stones. This important, well researched, illustrated book not only tells the story of Jay's modern day rediscovery of natural radiation hormesis, it also provides practical information on how to acquire and use his stones, along with numerous other related techniques on how to improve one's health and treat disease. For medical practitioners, researchers, and scientists there is an annotated bibliography, copious references, and a comprehensive index. The Foreword to "e;The Hormesis Effect"e; is by holistic doctor Raphael d'Angelo, M.D., a respected expert in the fields of naturopathic care and integrative family medicine, and the director of The ParaWellness Research Program in Aurora, Colorado. Take this journey with the authors and be amazed, outraged, delighted, moved, surprised, grateful, and awe-struck. It could save a life.

CHAPTER 1

SERENDIPITY OR DIVINE GUIDANCE

Life began nearly four billions years ago under conditions of radioactivity far more intense than those that trouble the minds of certain present-day environmentalists. . . . We need to keep in mind the thought that these fierce energies flooded the very womb of life. The two relevant professional societies, the American Nuclear Society and the Health Physics Society, have also supported this stance in carefully considered Position Statements: It is the position of the American Nuclear Society that there is insufficient scientific evidence to support the Use of the Linear No Threshold Hypothesis in the projection of the health effects of low-level radiation. — Prof. James Lovelock, forward to Bruno Camby’s Environmentalists for Nuclear Energy, PS-41, June 2001

ONE OF JAY’S FAVORITE SAYINGS is: “God doesn’t call on the qualified, He qualifies the called.” Jay has a strong belief that he was called upon to take on this responsibility of healing people. Several times he has tried to walk away from this calling, but he explains that somehow he has always been called back.

So the story goes: Jay was on a helicopter mission in Northern Wyoming. He was a helicopter repairman and was frequently sent out to retrieve downed helicopters in remote areas. On this particular fateful day, Jay found some green-blue stones on the ground. He knew a lot about turquoise and, he began to think that the stones he had found were, indeed, a form or blend of turquoise. The beauty of the stone captivated him. It was stunning in color, as deep as the ocean blues and as luscious as the green fields and the rain forests. It looked like the world map contained inside of a stone.

Jay decided to mine the area for more of those gorgeous stones to make jewelry. Originally he tried to pry the stone loose with generators and a jack hammer. It was inconvenient to get out there. He had no money. He went by himself, to the middle of nowhere—and he didn’t even know why. But he felt like a homing pigeon—he just kept being drawn back. The work of trying to get the stone out, in sufficiently large pieces that he could work with, was proving to be frustrating. The material was so brittle that when he jack-hammered it free it would break up, rendering it useless for making jewelry.

After several unsuccessful trips to the site, Jay found some men near where he was working who had a quarry. Jay asked, cajoled, begged—it took him three years to get permission from the owners of the quarry to retrieve the stone. Fate is a funny thing. Jay had no idea why he was going to such lengths to get out a bit of stone to make little pieces of jewelry, and he had no idea what exactly he was going to do with the jewelry after it was made. But Jay and the stones seemed to have a destiny to fulfill, and so he remained diligent in his efforts to get to those stones. Ultimately, because the stone he wanted was embedded in limestone, it had to be dynamited out.

At first, Jay began to make jewelry himself, giving it to friends and selling some—but jewelry is a hard thing to sell. Good thing he had a day-job of repairing helicopters. Yet, he found himself deriving a lot of personal satisfaction that went into the fine crafting of the jewelry.

Eventually, there was a lot of Jay’s jewelry out there: mostly gifts to friends and friends of friends. As time passed, Jay started getting reports back from people who had been wearing the jewelry. These people were claiming quite remarkable things. They were asserting that they were getting healings and pain relief from the stones. Arthritis was disappearing; inflammations were calming down; long-standing open wounds were healing after years—sometimes decades—of oozing; even some cancer tumors had disappeared. Jay thought, at first, that these people were making up their miraculous “cures” because, as he reasoned, they wanted to believe it. He assumed their beliefs about the extraordinary healing powers of the jewelry were just “in their heads"—a figment of their overly active imaginations. But eventually, there came to be too many reports to ignore or to assume that all of these people—hordes of people at this point—were making up this phenomenon.

Jay Gutierrez with Eliat Stone.

Jay took the stone to a lab and had it analyzed. The lab result revealed that the stone contained several elements. This beautiful blue-green stone that he had spent years of his life chasing was, he learned, a mixture of malachite, chrysocolla, turquoise, and silver. Jay knew that malachite is not an uncommon stone. Once Jay knew the material that his stones were comprised of, he was able to do a search of the medical history of the stone. Malachite has an interesting history dating back to Egypt. Long ago, the Egyptians were battling cholera. Everyone was coming down with cholera; most were dying. There was one exception: the only people who were not being affected were the slaves who were mining malachite. Since that time, healers who believe in stones have postulated that malachite has enormous healing properties.

Generally malachite has either chrysocolla or turquoise mixed in with it. But, Jay’s research led him to understand that the only other place in the world where you can find malachite with both chrysocolla and turquoise is in Israel. There, this stone is known as the King Solomon Stone, or the Eilat Stone. It is found in the mines from the times of King Solomon near the town of Eilat. It is the national stone of Israel. Eilat is the southernmost city of Israel, and the waters of the Red Sea were the passage of the Israelites from slavery to freedom in the Promised Land. King Solomon was a wealthy and wise king, and Eilat was the royal port from which he traded with Africa. His mines were famous and operational until approximately twenty years ago. Copper was being mined out of them until the price of copper dropped and it became no longer financially feasible to pump water out of the mine to get to the cooper. The mine has been flooded ever since. Unlike the King Solomon Stone, however, the stone Jay found has a high content of silver. The presence of silver gives this stone some of its unique power, as silver is a conductor for electricity and is, as well, a natural antibiotic.

And, finally, there is the secret ingredient that makes this stone more than magical: the lab report also showed that this magnificent stone was replete with thorium. As any Chemistry 101 student knows, thorium is a radioactive element.

RADIOACTIVITY 101

Since the beginning of time, at the very creation of the earth, life developed in a bath of radiation. All of life on our planet—both human and otherwise—has absorbed and used radiation to our benefit, and it remains as essential today for the continuation of all species as it was when life first developed. We live both under radiation—raining down on us from our atmosphere and beyond; and we live above radiation, as it spews out from the fiery inner core of our earth.

Radioactivity is a form of energy. It arises due to the presence of radium or radon. Radon, a gas, is a by-product of the decay of the element, radium. Radon is ubiquitous, seeping out from the earth’s crust, and wherever there is water situated where the rays are coming out, the water itself becomes radioactive.

Radioactivity, whether from water, or from stones, rocks and ore that we find on the surface of our planet, is ubiquitous, found all over the earth. It is created by unstable isotopes of four elements: thorium, uranium, potassium, and rubidium. But like many things in the universe, elements are happiest when they are stable—which means on the cellular level that they have the same number of protons and neutrons. In this process of acquiring stability, the atoms of these radioactive isotopes begin a decay process in which electrically charged particles are emitted—alpha and beta particles and gamma rays. And, it is this decay, or disintegration, that throws off the specific form of energy that we call radiation. When atomic stability has been reached, there is no more decay, and thus, no more emission of radioactivity. This process of resolution can take between a few minutes and 13,500,000,000 years.

In the natural world, radiation is given off spontaneously and continuously without any external source of power. Once material becomes radioactive, it continuously gives off energy in small packets or “rays.” These bundles of energy are called nuclear or atomic radiation, or, more generally, ionizing radiation. Everywhere on earth, we live in a sea of background radiation, weak or strong, depending on the location. The same radioactive rock can have a strong emission of radiation from one spot, and less than a centimeter away, it can register only a minor blip on a Geiger counter.

Yet, even though we live in, under, above and around radioactivity, a deep fear has developed in our country about all things radioactive. The fear stems from the common belief that any dose of radiation increases the likelihood of two dreaded diseases: cancer and congenital malformations.

BEYOND MAGIC

This stone that kept calling out to Jay had moved him from art (jewelry making), to spirituality (King Solomon’s mines), to science (radioactivity). Yes, indeed: way beyond being a magical stone.

The saga of the search for stones didn’t end, though, with that beautiful stone. After finding out that the stones were radioactive, Jay began to work with people in a more structured and careful way. He developed a robust reputation for being able to...
