Dr. Michelyn Wilson Bhandari, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Community Health Option of the Master of Public Health Program at Eastern Kentucky University in the Department of Health Promotion and Administration, has been teaching community health education professional preparation courses since 2003. Michelyn has authored articles and made numerous presentations in the area of public health systems and services research. She successfully completed the Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) requirements in 2012. In 2010, she became a Certified Public Health (CPH) professional. Michelyn served as the Chair of the Kentucky Certification Board for Prevention Professionals for several years. Dr. Bhandari received an undergraduate and Master of Public Health degree in Public Health Education from Western Kentucky University and a Doctor of Public Health degree in Epidemiology from the University of Kentucky. Karen M. Hunter, Associate Professor and Undergraduate Coordinator in the Department of Health Promotion & Administration at Eastern Kentucky University, has been teaching health education professional preparation courses since 1990. During her career, Karen has authored articles and made presentations on various topics related to health education including obesity and advocacy. She successfully completed the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) requirements in 1991. Mrs. Hunter received her undergraduate degree in Nutrition and a Master of Public Health degree in Nutrition and Epidemiology from University of Michigan. She is currently A.B.D. for an Ed.D. in Health Education at University of Kentucky. Karen has served as President for the Bluegrass District of the Kentucky Dietetics Association, Vice President for Health Education with the Kentucky Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, and newsletter editor for the Kentucky Public Health Association. Dr. Kathleen Phillips, professor and Intern Coordinator in the Department of Health Studies at Eastern Illinois University, has been teaching health education professional preparation courses since 1978. During her career, Kathy has authored articles and made numerous presentations on professional program assessment and internship practices. She successfully completed the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) requirements in 1989 and the Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) requirements in 2011. Dr. Phillips received her undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock University, her master's degree from Western Illinois University, and a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University.
