This book is focused on a specialized but important subject of coastal and marine ecosystem management based on remote sensing imagery. Remote sensing applications are key resources for advanced knowledge on coastal and marine ecosystem conservation, especially when applied to coral reefs, whales and sharks, chlorophyll distribution, etc.
This book is focused on a specialized but important subject of coastal and marine ecosystem management based on remote sensing imageries, such as SAR from Sentinel-1, MSI from Sentinel-2A and Landsat, bathymetry form GEBCO, sea surface temperature (SST) from CMEMS, etc. It includes practical case studies with thematic data sets and clear step-by-step instructions for data processing. Key resources for advanced knowledge on coastal and marine ecosystem conservation, zonation, planning, and management based on satellite imaging data are also presented.

Features

Provides innovative methods and advanced analytical approaches for processing satellite and radar data tailored to specific applications.
Includes case studies of best practices in marine studies and coastal disaster management from Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, and China.
Explains how to build a new thematic spatial database system and how to develop an individual new thematic algorithm.
Showcases thematic spatial database systems that serve as the foundation for local and national regulatory frameworks and support international solutions to environmental challenges.
Describes limitations and future possibilities for additional studies.

This is a vital resource for professionals, researchers, and students using remote sensing applications in various fields, especially in marine sciences and oceanography.

Agus Hartoko is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the Department of Aquatic Resources Management, Diponegoro University, Semarang, Indonesia. He is the Founder of the Marine Geomatic Center at the same university. His research is focused on the applications of remote sensing and SAR data for oceanography phenomenon, marine spatial database system and numerical modelling, application for paleo-oceanography. He has received several awards and the most recent from UNDP on 2021 for Integrated Spatial Database System of FAD for Indonesian Fisheries Management Areas. Josaphat Tetuko Sri Sumantyo is the Head of the Department of Environmental Remote Sensing and Head Division of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Graduate School of Integrated Science and Technology, Chiba University, Japan. He has authored or coauthored about 700 journals and conference papers, and 15 books related to wave analysis, SAR, and small antennas. Dr. Sri Sumantyo is the General Chair of the 7th Asia-Pacific Conference on Synthetic Aperture Radar (APSAR 2021) and the Co-Leader of the Working Group on remote sensing instrumentation and technologies for unmanned aerial vehicles of IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society and Technical Committee on Instrumentation and Future Technologies.
