This book analyzes the future temperature trend of the earth's surface using a scientific model and provides an overview of the causes and effects of climate change. The content also includes relevant data and facts on the topics of carbon budget, demography, glaciers, permafrost, biodiversity, mobility and extreme weather. The rapid global reduction of the increase in CO2 to net zero is an urgent necessity in order to enable future generations to live a life in dignity. As the main perpetrators, the industrialized countries have a moral responsibility to implement the reduction quickly and to support developing countries in this process. The book is also aimed at and suitable for people with little connection to mathematics.

After studying mechanical engineering, Prof. Albert Fässler studied mathematics at ETH Zurich with a minor in physics, where he received his doctorate in 1976 on the subject of applied group theory. He taught at ETH and then for many years at the Bern University of Applied Sciences. Research stays include the Institute for Mathematics and Its Applications IMA at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, University of Colorado in Ft. Collins and Fudan University in Shanghai. Since his retirement in 2008, he has taught at the Fudan, Anna and Abdur Rahman Universities in Chennai, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in South India, National Chiao Tung in Hsinchu. He gave lectures at conferences in Sapporo (2023), Singapore (2024) and in November 2024 at Tsinghua and Beihang Universities in Beijing, National Taiwan Tech in Taipei and ShanghaiTech in Shanghai.
