Readers will be exposed to topics such as reverse engineering, additive manufacturing, circular economy, digital design and manufacturing automated tools, numerical simulations in manufacturing and use of artificial intelligence, as well as textile, clothing and footwear applications.
Digitalization concepts and methods have, in recent times, drawn the interest of researchers and academics, especially in design and manufacturing. Modern product design integrates advanced CAD/CAE/CAPP/CAM/PLM and computational tools as a means to automate tasks and increase the quality of the designed product, while reducing manufacturing cost and the time-to-market. The same is true that in the era of artificial intelligence, digital manufacturing is a fast-expanding focus of research that includes not only pure manufacturing topics but also additive manufacturing, reverse engineering, simulations of material properties for strength, manufacturability, and optimization of manufacturing processes.

The book aims to cover digital tools and methods that offer additional advantages for designing and manufacturing products in a variety of industries. Furthermore, the book reviews green digital design and green digital manufacturing in the context of a circular economy.

Gheorghe Oancea received his PhD in Manufacturing Engineering from Transylvania University of Brasov, Romania , and is a PhD supervisor in the same university. Since 2003, he has been a full professor and he was Head of the Manufacturing Engineering Department (2011-2016) and Dean of Technological Engineering and Industrial Management Faculty (2016-2024), Transylvania University of Brasov. Professor Oancea has authored and co-authored 18 books/book chapters, two patents, and more than 180 scientific publications from which 80 are Clarivate (WoS) indexed. He has served as conference chairman, keynote speaker, and reviewer for several important scientific journals and international conferences. His current research interests are in innovative manufacturing technologies, CAD/CAE/CAPP/CAM systems, additive manufacturing, and reverse engineering. Panagiotis Kyratsis (www.kyratsis.com) is the Head of the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering, University of Western Macedonia, Greece. He is the Director of the Research Institute of Traditional Architecture and Cultural Heritage, and Director of the Computational Design and Digital Fabrication Research Laboratory. He has been involved in several industrial projects, and he has great expertise in both the design and the manufacturing aspects of product development. His main research interests include advanced manufacturing, CAD/CAM/CAE, product design, reverse engineering, and prototyping.
