This book discusses the details of random number generation (RNG) as a key technology that is used for information security in various fields, such as electronic commerce and authentication. Readers will see how random numbers are used in various applications such as in the generation of keys for data encryption, games, lotteries, sampling, simulations, statistical sampling, search/sort algorithms, and gambling. The authors describe how the classification of RNGs encompasses linear and nonlinear (chaotic) pseudo and truly random number generators, and how they can be evaluated by applying statistical tests.

  • Covers a vast array of special topics on fractional-order chaotic circuits and systems to develop applications in information security;
  • Describes details of using FPGAs to approach chaotic maps and fractional-order circuits and systems for hardware security;
  • Includes Verilog hardware description for random number generation.

Dr. L.G. de  la  Fraga received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Instituto Tecnológico de Veracruz, Veracruz, México in 1992; he received the M.Sc degree  from the Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica Optica y Electrónica (INAOE), Puebla, México, in 1994; and the Ph.D. degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain, in 1998. Since 2000 he is in the Computer Science Department at the Center of Research and Advanced Studies (Cinvestav), in Mexico City. He research areas include Computer Vision, Optimization, Applied Mathematics, Machine Learning, and Network Security. He is very enthusiastic of open software and GNU/Linux systems. Dr. De la Fraga has published 3 books and more than 100 articles in journals and international conferences. He is member of ACM and IEEE societies since 2005.

José David Rodríguez-Muñoz received his B.Sc. degree from Tecnológico de Nuevo Laredo, México, in 2021, and his M.Sc. degree from Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica (INAOE), México. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Electronics at INAOE. He has authored three articles in international journals. His research interests include chaotic systems, digital signal processing, digital system design with FPGA, and IoT security.

Esteban Tlelo Cuautle received a B.Sc. degree from Instituto Tecnológico de Puebla, México in 1993. He then received both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica (INAOE), México in 1995 and 2000, respectively. He has authored 6 books, edited 14 books and around 300 works published in book chapters, international journals and conferences. He serves as Associate Editor in Integration the VLSI Journal, Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, Fractal and fractional, International Journal of Circuit Theory and Appications and Electronics. His research interests include analog signal processing, synthesis and design of integrated circuits, multi-objective optimization, metaheuristics, chaotic systems, IoT security, symbolic analysis and analog/RF and mixed-signal design automation tools.
