Covers perhaps the most important statistical distribution - the Normal probability distribution - which emerges as a model for a number of continuous variables. This unit explores its central role in the study of statistics.
The aim of 16-19 Mathematics has been to produce a course which, while challenging, is accessible and enjoyable to all students. The course develops ability and confidence in mathematics and its applications, together with an appreciation of how mathematical ideas help in the understanding of the world and society in which we live. This unit: • introduces the Normal distribution; • helps foster an understanding of when the Normal distribution is appropriate as a model for data; • develops an awareness of the importance of the Normal probability model in the study of statistics; • introduces the sampling distribution of a statistic and its application in making inferences from samples.
