The PRINCE methodology is primarily aimed at large-scale IT projects,
typically those of over 6>100,000 value and more than nine staff months
of effort. Organizations dealing with substantially smaller projects
have been advised to 'use common sense' or tune the methodology to
reflect the size of the project.
This guide provides project managers with a structure for the planning
and control of small projects - typically lasting more than one month
in duration but consuming less than 20 days of staff time. This
structure is based around the SPICE (Small Projects in a Controlled
Environment) method. SPICE is largely compliant with the requirements
of PRINCE, is applicable for both IT and non IT projects and can be
tailored to reflect the organization's existing standards and culture.
It aims to provide quality assurance and quality controls consistent
with the requirements of BS5750/ISI 9000.
