Our rapidly developing computer technologies offer fresh opportunities and challenges. This work shows that there is a way to exploit the power and flexibility of modern computers in the design of interfaces that reduce cognitive effort and support robust performance. It discusses a different approach to interface design.
Our rapidly developing computer technologies offer new opportunities as they offer new challenges. The promise put forward here is that there is a way to exploit the power and flexibility of modern computers in the design of interfaces that reduce cognitive effort and support robust performance. To do so will require a new approach to interface design, which is discussed in this special issue.
