Local Area Networking started mid 70th with data rates of 1 Mbps and 10 Mbps. Besides Ethernet there was Token Ring and later on FDDI. Ethernet was the most promoted standard LAN with data rates of 10 Mbps. Afterwards the data rates exploded to 100 Mbps with Fast Ethernet, 1 Gbps with Gigabit Ethernet and up to 10 Gbps with 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Besides this progress there are new cabling standards and wireless networks with a comparable increase in data rates, from 1 Mbps to 400 Mbps. Cabling, Powerline, internetworking, Storage Area Networks, Fibre Channel and other wireless technologies like Bluetooth and ZigBee? are topics of this eBook. The eBook Local Area Networks explains more than 1,000 topics and terms, it has about 400 graphics, photos and tables, it uses hyperlinks, has a list of linked abbreviations and an index.
