D.H. Lawrence (1885-1930) was an English writer whose work often dealt with the theme of human sexuality, and suffered from censorship. At the time of his death, Lawrence was seen by many as little more than a pornographer, but subsequently he has come to be regarded as a pioneer of English modernism, and one of the greatest writers of his generation.
