A techno-thriller about the ultimate battle for human freedom
In Silicon Valley, an unconventional software is being developed: a game controlled directly by thoughts through a special helmet. But when developer John Bremer uncovers corporate misconduct, he believes he has already witnessed the darkest form of greed. Out of necessity, he accepts a banker's offer and embeds code fragments into the game that allow money to be diverted. Soon, however, it becomes clear that he is not the only one who has compromised: almost everyone is corrupt, and the management inexplicably turns a blind eye to everything. John realizes that the true intention is not profit, but something far darker.
When his colleague Robert dies in a suspicious accident, John receives a mysterious package: a strange device and encrypted codes. These reveal a terrifying truth: the world's most popular VR game, Underworld, is not just entertainment-it secretly manipulates the minds of millions. The threads lead to a global elite that uses cutting-edge technologies to control the population. The conspiracy reaches the highest levels of government, military, and finance. The ultimate goal: to strip people of the right to control their own money, to destroy fundamental values such as love, family, and honor, and to implant new thoughts in them so that they accept them as their own.
John gets too close to the truth, and his life is put in danger. With a fake passport, he flees to Thailand, where he begins a race against time. His only chance is to turn the enemy's own weapon against them. He receives help from people he never would have expected, while increasingly disturbing revelations about reality come to light.
Whether John ultimately manages to do something against the untouchables striving for world domination is revealed in the novel.
If readers perceive similarities between events, people, and methods in the novel and those in reality, it is not always mere coincidence.
THE CODE is a provocative thriller that asks a disturbing question: What if your thoughts are no longer truly your own?
