Journey to the West: The Cost of Dreams Beyond Home follows the life-changing journey of Kwame, a young lecturer and poultry farmer who lives a peaceful, promising life with his fiancée, Nyamekye, in Ghana.
Despite having stability and love at home, Kwame is persuaded by his friends—Ofori and Maamuna Akrobeto—to chase the dream of traveling abroad for a better future. Against Nyamekye’s fears, Kwame leaves everything behind.
The journey becomes a nightmare.
The guide disappears, leaving the three friends stranded in the Sahara Desert. Food and water run out. One by one, his friends collapse—first Akrobeto, then Maamuna—both dying painfully in the scorching desert. Kwame continues alone, determined to survive and tell their story.
Collapsed at death’s door, Kwame is rescued by a patrol team. To repay the man who saves him, Kwame works for years in servitude before finally making his way to Canada, where he becomes a lecturer again. But success abroad feels empty. His heart longs for home, for peace, and for the life he lost.
Years later, Kwame returns to Ghana. He discovers that Nyamekye, believing him dead, has moved on and built a new family. Though painful, Kwame accepts it with maturity. His return shocks the entire community, and soon his story spreads across the country.
Kwame becomes a national voice of wisdom—speaking on TV and across communities about:
the dangers of risky migration
the price of chasing foreign dreams
the importance of home, roots, and purpose
He dedicates his life to youth mentorship, farming education, and building local opportunities, turning his trauma into a legacy that uplifts others.
In the end, Kwame realizes that true destiny isn’t found abroad—it’s created at home.
His journey becomes a symbolic reminder:
Dreams can cost everything. Home is priceless.
