'Victoria, do you take Vincenzo to be your lawfully wedded husband?' the priest asked.
I swallowed hard, forcing myself to speak.
'I do,' I whispered, barely audible.
Then the priest turned to Vincenzo.
Without a flicker of emotion, he answered, 'I do.'
'You may now kiss the bride.'
Vincenzo stepped closer and lifted my veil. His icy eyes locked onto mine, and just before his lips touched mine, he murmured in a low, chilling voice meant only for me:
'I don't care how much my family paid you to ruin my life, but I'll make sure you regret ever stepping foot here.'
Victoria Washington was already shattered-betrayed by the man she loved, dumped the day before his wedding... to her sister. Humiliated and mocked, she thought life had dealt her its final blow.
But fate had other plans.
She's broken. He's lost.
She's full of fear. He's the monster everyone warns her about.
And yet, somehow... he becomes her light, even while drowning in his own darkness.
Vincenzo Dante is determined to drag his family's name through the mud after they forced him into a marriage he never wanted. But what he doesn't realize is that his new wife is stronger than she appears-too wounded to shatter, too resilient to bend beneath his cruelty.
As unexpected feelings begin to bloom and long-buried secrets rise to the surface, they're forced to confront one question:
When love grows in the shadows, what happens when the truth finally steps into the light?

Chapter     102

Victoria Bella Volkov:

Mrs. Washington's voice shattered the silence. "I know you killed my daughter!" She fell to her knees, her hands shaking as she reached toward me. "What did I do? Where is my daughter, Bella?!" Her scream echoed, a raw, desperate sound.

I stared at her, my throat tightening. I wanted to say something, but the words caught. "Mother, I..." The word felt foreign, like I didn't even know her anymore. She didn't deserve that title. Not after everything she did.

She crawled closer, her face twisted in agony. "I don't know where you've hidden my daughter, but I want her back!" She pleaded, her voice breaking. "Marianne was all I had... please."

The anger surged in me, hot and sharp. "My parents were all I had too!" I shouted, my fists clenched. "But you killed them, Mrs. Washington. You took everything from me!"

She scoffed, slowly pushing herself up. "They deserved it," she sneered. "Guess you found that out, huh? Poor Sunshine." She laughed bitterly, mocking the nickname my mother had always called me. "Your parents were rich, you were pampered... while I had to work every damn day, just to scrape by. Why?" Her voice rose, trembling with fury. She swung her bag at me, hitting my chest with a thud.

I staggered back, my breath sharp. I blinked, trying to hold back the tears, but they threatened to spill.

"It's not their fault," I said, my voice shaking with the weight of it. "Being rich shouldn't mean someone should die."

Mrs. Washington's eyes burned with rage, her lips curling into a snarl. "I lost a child, Bella. Do you know what that's like? Do you know what it feels to lose someone you love? And you... You should be thanking me. I only took what was valuable to you."

Her words stung like a slap. My throat tightened, but before I could react, she raised her hand, aiming for my cheek.

But then, out of nowhere, Christopher appeared, grabbing her wrist with surprising strength. "That's enough, Mrs. Washington," he said, his voice low and commanding. "Go home. Eat. Take a shower. And go look for your daughter. There's nothing more to say here."

I turned and walked toward the door, my heart pounding. I heard her scream one last time. "Murderer!"

"You're a psycho! Just like your mother, Katherine!" she shrieked after me. "Do you know what she did? She couldn't even stand to look at your disgusting face!" Her words felt like daggers, but I didn't care anymore.

I stopped for a moment, letting out a slow breath. "I don't care anymore... It's all in the past." With that, I walked away.

As I entered the company, the strange numbness crept in again. It was like I was floating through everything, barely feeling anything at all. I couldn't explain it.

I pulled out my phone, ready to call Tiger, but then I stopped. Why would I bother him? Wasn't I already a burden?

"Ma'am, ma'am! You're going the wrong way!" someone called out.

I blinked, looking around. The intern floor? I was supposed to be on the fifth floor. It was like my mind was miles away, lost in a fog. It took a moment before I could gather myself enough to retrace my steps.

I finally reached my office, but the numbness still hung over me. Everything felt unreal, like I was just going through the motions.

"Ma'am, you're late," Ashley said, noticing me walk in. "Mr. Zack is already waiting for you. The department heads are in the meeting room. Is everything alright?"

I dropped my bag on the desk, trying to shake off the fog. "I'm fine. Just... lead the way," I said, keeping my voice steady.

She nodded and walked ahead, leading me to the meeting room. Mr. Zack was already sitting at the table, his posture relaxed but sharp, his eyes assessing me as I walked in.

"Victoria, it's good to finally meet you," he said, standing up and extending his hand.

I shook it, forcing a polite smile. "The pleasure is mine, Mr. Zack."

We sat down, and the conversation quickly turned to business. "I've been following your company for a while," Mr. Zack started, leaning forward. "I think there's a lot of potential here, especially with the direction you're heading. I want to be a part of that growth."

I raised an eyebrow. "You're offering an investment?"

"Exactly," he said, nodding. "But not just any investment. I want to bring my platform into this. We could feature your products in our dramas, subtly, but everywhere. Imagine your brand in every show, getting more visibility than any traditional ad campaign."

I thought about it for a second. It sounded good, but there was something in the way he said it----too confident, too calculated. "That's... an interesting approach."

"It's a powerful one," he replied, smiling smoothly. "You'll see the results quickly, and the best part is, the viewers won't even know they're being sold to. It'll just be a natural fit."

I wasn't sure how I felt about it. On one hand, it was a smart move. On the other, I couldn't shake the feeling he was pushing his agenda more than mine. Still, we had no better offers on the table.

After a brief pause, I leaned forward, my tone more serious. "Let's make it happen. But I'll need full control over how my products are featured. No compromises."

Mr. Zack's smile never faltered. "Of course. We'll work with you every step of the way."

The deal was sealed with a handshake, but as I stood up, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of doubt. Mr. Zack's charm was almost too perfect. I couldn't decide if he was exactly what we needed----or if he was hiding something.

Back at my office, Ashley handed me a cup of coffee. "Would you like one?"

I nodded, rubbing my temples. "Yeah, I've got a headache."

She offered me a sympathetic smile. "I'll get you some painkillers."

I took the coffee and opened my bag to grab my meds. After swallowing a couple of pills, I grabbed my notebook and headed to meet with the department heads. I had a few decisions to make, but as I reviewed the list, my head suddenly felt like it was being pounded by a hammer.

"Ma'am?" One of the staff members interrupted my thoughts, pointing at my face. "You're bleeding."

I touched my nose and sure enough, blood was dripping down.

 Great. Just what I needed.

I walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind me. The cool air hit my face as I pressed a tissue to my nose, trying to stop the blood from dripping. My hands were shaking, but I couldn't let it get to me.

Staring at myself in the mirror, I couldn't shake the feeling of being completely off. The silence in the room was suddenly interrupted by a voice----soft and almost like a whisper.

 "You're a murderer."

I froze, my breath catching. My eyes darted around the small space, but there was no one there. I gripped the sink, trying to steady myself, but the voice echoed again.

"No one's ever going to forgive you."

I shut my eyes tightly, trying to block it out. "Stop. Stop," I muttered under my breath. This was ridiculous. It had to be just my mind, nothing more.

I wiped my face, splashed cold water on my skin, and took a long look in the mirror, trying to steady myself. The blood was gone, but the unease lingered.

Taking a deep breath, I walked back into the meeting room. The department heads were still sitting at the table, their eyes on me, waiting for me to take control. I couldn't let them see anything was off.

"Let's get back to it," I said, forcing myself to sound calm as I picked up the folder in front of me.

The conversation quickly moved forward. I looked around at the department heads, all waiting for direction.

"Alright," I began, scanning through the papers. "We're making a few changes. First, I'm promoting Heather to senior assistant. She's been putting in the work, and it's time she gets recognized. Tom's going to lead the marketing project now. He's got a great eye for detail."

I called out a few more names from the intern list, promoting them and giving them the opportunity to step up. The surprise on their faces was clear, but I didn't back down. They needed to know I meant business.

"I expect everyone here to step up," I added, looking at each of them. "These changes are just the start. Show me you're ready for more."

The meeting wrapped up quickly after that, and I dismissed everyone with a firm, "That'll be all for...
