She was born to serve the throne-then cast out to die beneath the same moon that blessed her birth.

Ten years after her brutal exile, Mila Fox, the pack's forgotten omega, returns from the wilds cloaked in scars and secrets. She was once promised to the Lycan heir-King Maxine Ali-the man who rejected their sacred mate bond to secure his crown. But the night he severed their destiny, something ancient awoke inside her... something the gods themselves now fear.

When war ignites and the Silver Claw Kingdom begins to crumble, Mila's return shakes the throne to its core. The king who betrayed her must now fight beside her-or against her-as their souls burn with the bond neither could destroy. Each touch rekindles forbidden fire. Each secret they share unearths darker truths: about the curse binding their blood, and the prophecy that names her the key to both salvation and ruin.

Love made them enemies. Destiny will make them gods.
And when the wolf-god rises again, one truth will shatter the world-
the outcast was never the weak one.

CHAPTER 1 – “Return of the Exile”

The forest hadn’t changed—only the silence had.

Ten years since Mila Fox last crossed the Silver Claw border, the air still smelled of pine and frost, but beneath it lingered something rotten. Smoke curled between the trees, thick and black, rising toward a gray dawn. The sound of distant howls carried through the mist, war-cries that did not belong to her pack.

She paused on the ridge overlooking the valley. Once, she had called this land home. Once, her laughter had echoed in the river below, and her wolf had run wild among the others. Now, she stood there cloaked in scars and ash, nothing but a ghost returning to her own grave.

The old mark on her wrist—once the seal of her mate bond—was faint but still there, a thin silver thread that never fully faded. She rubbed it unconsciously, the memory of Maxine’s voice still sharp as a blade in her chest. I reject you, Mila Fox. I sever our bond. The words haunted her dreams even now.

But the fire beyond the forest was real. The Black Fang Clan had attacked before sunrise; she’d smelled their stench before she saw the smoke. They were ruthless—half-blood Lycans with no loyalty to the moon. If they’d reached the capital, Silver Claw’s reign could already be burning.

She adjusted the strap of her pack, feeling the weight of her knives at her hip. The omega who once trembled before the throne was long gone. Ten winters in exile had taught her to fight, to survive, to kill. Now she returned not as a supplicant, but as a storm.

Her wolf stirred beneath her skin, impatient. We shouldn’t have come back.

Mila smirked faintly. “We never left, not really.”

She descended the ridge, her boots crunching through frost. The land was eerily quiet—no birds, no patrols. Only the faint hum of old wards that still recognized her blood. They flickered as she passed, acknowledging her presence with reluctant acceptance.

By the time she reached the outer wall of the capital, the smoke had thickened. Two warriors stood guard, their armor bearing the sigil of the Silver Claw. They stiffened as she approached, weapons half-drawn.

“State your name,” one demanded. His voice quivered, though he tried to mask it. “You’ve crossed restricted territory.”

Mila pulled back her hood. “Do ghosts need names?”

The guard blanched. His scent shifted—fear, disbelief. “It’s not possible… you’re dead.”

“Tell that to the moon.” She stepped closer, her gaze steady. “Take me to your king.”

The other guard hesitated. “The king doesn’t see strangers—”

“He’ll see me.” Her tone left no room for argument. “Or he’ll wish he had.”

The first guard swallowed and nodded, signaling the gates. The iron doors groaned open, revealing the city beyond—a scarred reflection of what she remembered. The once-glittering halls of silverstone were cracked, the scent of fire still clinging to the air. Wolves in human form hurried through the streets, whispering her name like a curse and a prayer.

Mila Fox has returned.

She ignored the stares, walking straight through the main square where the old wolf statue stood. Once a symbol of loyalty, it now bore claw marks—signs of recent battle. Her heart twisted at the sight, but she didn’t let it slow her steps.

The great doors of the throne hall loomed ahead, carved from obsidian and etched with ancient runes. Two elite guards crossed their spears to block her path.

“State your business,” one said.

Her voice came calm and sharp. “I have come to see King Maxine Ali. Tell him his ghost has returned.”

Before they could respond, the doors swung open from within. A cold draft swept through the corridor, carrying the unmistakable scent of cedar, steel, and power.

He was there.

Maxine Ali—no longer the prince who had broken her heart, but the king who ruled her once-home—stood at the far end of the hall. The years had sharpened him. His shoulders were broader, his features more severe, his eyes colder. The silver streaks in his hair caught the torchlight like polished metal.

The room fell silent. Even the guards stepped back as Mila crossed the threshold.

Their eyes met across the expanse of marble floor. Ten years of silence, of anger and exile, hung between them like fog.

“Mila.” Her name left his lips like a curse and a confession.

“Your Majesty.” She inclined her head slightly, not in submission, but acknowledgment. “You’re harder to find than I remember.”

His gaze flicked over her—her worn leather armor, the twin blades strapped to her thighs, the faint shimmer of power beneath her skin. “You shouldn’t be here.”

“Neither should the Black Fang Clan,” she said. “But they seem comfortable enough burning your borders.”

A ripple of tension moved through the council members seated along the walls. Maxine’s jaw tightened. “You think I don’t know that? This is pack business, not yours.”

“It became mine when your war smoke touched the Frost Wastelands.”

“Those lands were your choice.”

Her lips curved bitterly. “You’re right. You chose for me.”

For a moment, silence again. Only the crackle of torches filled the hall. Maxine descended the steps from his throne, each movement precise, controlled. His wolf aura pressed against hers—dominant, commanding—but she didn’t flinch.

“What do you want, Mila?” he asked softly. “Revenge? Forgiveness? A place you no longer belong?”

Her heart thudded. She hated that his voice still had the power to reach through her armor. “I want to help. Whether you want me here or not.”

He stared at her for a long moment, something unreadable in his gaze. Then he turned, signaling to his general. “Escort her to the border by dawn.”

Mila’s temper flared. “You’d rather lose half your pack than let me fight beside you?”

His voice hardened. “You’re not part of this pack.”

“Then whose am I?” she demanded, stepping closer. “Because I still carry your mark. No decree, no council, no rejection erased it. Tell me, Your Majesty—why does it still burn when I look at you?”

Gasps echoed around the chamber. Maxine’s eyes darkened, wolf flickering just beneath the surface. The air grew heavy, charged with heat and fury.

“You have no idea what you’re stirring,” he said quietly.

“I know exactly what I’m stirring.”

For a heartbeat, the world seemed to narrow to just them—the air between their bodies humming, their bond flickering like a pulse long thought dead. He could feel her heartbeat as if it were his own, fast and defiant.

Then he tore his gaze away, forcing calm. “Leave before I make it an order.”

She didn’t move. “You already did. Ten years ago.”

The words struck deep, sharper than any blade. Maxine’s mask faltered for an instant, revealing the guilt buried beneath duty. But then he straightened, the king returning to his throne.

“Guards,” he said, voice clipped. “See her out.”

Two warriors advanced. Mila’s wolf growled softly within, the sound rippling through the room though her lips never moved. The guards hesitated, uneasy.

Maxine’s fingers curled around the arm of his chair. “Don’t challenge me again, Mila.”

Her eyes met his—steady, fierce, burning. “Then don’t give me a reason to.”

A low rumble vibrated in his chest, almost a growl. The council shifted nervously. But before he could respond, a scout burst through the far doors, panting, eyes wide.

“My king—the Black Fang forces have breached the eastern wall! They’re inside the city!”

The hall erupted into chaos. Commands, shouts, the clatter of armor. Maxine turned sharply toward his generals, issuing orders. Mila stood still in the chaos, watching the same man who’d once cast her aside now struggle to save the kingdom he’d chosen over her.

Fate, it seemed, had a cruel sense of humor.

She moved toward the doors, ignoring the protests of the guards. Maxine caught sight of her, his voice cutting through the noise. “You will not interfere.”

Mila glanced back, a ghost of a smile playing on her lips. “You can’t exile me twice, Maxine.”

Before he could answer, she was gone—slipping into the smoke-filled corridor beyond, where the scent of blood already thickened. Her wolf surged beneath her skin, ready and wild.

Outside, the city burned in earnest now. Flames licked at rooftops, ash falling like dark snow. Shadows moved through the firelight—Black Fang warriors, their eyes gleaming with bloodlust. Mila drew her blades, feeling their weight settle into her palms. The first enemy lunged from the alley, claws flashing.

She sidestepped, slashed upward, and watched him fall. For every strike, a memory of her exile burned away. For every heartbeat, the old bond between her and Maxine pulsed stronger. Somewhere behind her, she could feel his aura—commanding, furious, alive.

The war had returned to Silver Claw. And so had she.

Smoke stung her throat as she lifted her head to the blood-colored sky. The moon was waxing, heavy with promise. She could feel the ancient power beneath her skin again—the same energy that had cracked the earth the night she was cast out. It whispered now, urgent and hungry.

You were never meant to beg. You were meant to lead.

Her lips parted, a slow, dangerous smile curving them. “Then let them remember me.”
