Young Alex had never dreamt of leaving his Grandfather or his village but fate had other plans for him. He had to leave everything behind and embark on a journey that would ultimately lead him on the path to achieve his ultimate goal in life. He will face threats he had never imagined and find comfort in places he hadn't been to. His journey will lead him to his destiny but will he stay on the righteous path or succumb to evil forces?

I am from Texas and live with my wife Rency and two children George (Aaron) and Rebekah. I have always been intrigued by majestic creatures like dragons and wanted to write a story that surrounded these magnificent beasts. This is my first attempt at writing a fiction novel and is completely different from what i do for a living. I work in healthcare industry and have been taking care of sick people in their most vulnerable state and have been doing this for the last 16 years.
The young boy Alex grew into a great warrior and fought battles, met some wonderful creatures along the way and fulfilled his destiny but this entire process took a toll on him. This book explores how a young man went on to become a successful leader but will he be able to go down in peace or will the forces of evil catch up with him? Friendships will be put to test, relationships will be challenged, time itself will stop to see how this young man will shape his destiny as he grows and matures into a fine young man. His battles will not be limited to physical ones but mental scuffles will always be his partner and he will align with forces that he should never have had but what will happen to him in the end ? Will he survive all of this or will he go down a steep path of destruction?

The Original Dragon Lord

The next day, Alex woke up to an entirely different surrounding, and he saw an old but strong man walking around gathering some firewood. Alex sat up and asked the man, “Where am I, and how did I get here?”

The man replied, “Here, have something to eat and I will explain
everything.”

Alex said, “No. I don’t want to eat anything. I want to know who you are and what I am doing here away from my friends.”

“Friends, huh?” the old man replied. “Tell me, what do you know about your so-called friends?”

Alex replied, “They are the only family I have, and they are there to help and protect me.”

The man jumped up and said, “Rubbish. They are not your friends. They want to kill you, you stupid boy.”

Alex was petrified and confused at the same time, and he asked the man, “What do you mean by that? Please tell me. I want to know the truth.”

The man gasped and said, “All right, I will tell you. My name is Misael, and I am your grandfather. My daughter, Gwen, was your mother.”

Alex was stunned in disbelief. After a few seconds, Alex gathered himself and asked, “Is this true? Are you really my grandfather?”

“Yes, my dear child,” said the old man. “Let me tell you how it all began. A long time ago, I was a young boy on the verge of gaining my right as one of the dragon warriors.”

Alex cut in and said, “Wait, wait, wait . . . did you say that you were a dragon warrior?”

The old man replied, “No, I wasn’t one yet, but I was next in line to become one of them. Me and my friend, Sariel, were the brave ones from our tribe, and the final task for us as young men to prove ourselves worthy was to tame one of the dragons for ourselves. Sariel and I were the only ones who were successful in mounting a dragon and staying on it, whereas the rest of our tribesmen either fell off of their dragons or could not get up on them at all. My father was the chief; they said that he was the Original Dragon Lord. His name was Maelock the Supreme, and on the night that Sariel and I passed our test, my father gave me a talisman, ‘the dragon belt,’ which was a necklace with a dragon’s head. Many years passed, and now I was the chief after my father had passed away.

“One day I saw Sariel talking to some strange-looking people. When I asked him about them, he replied that they were some of the most powerful wizards in the land and were just passing by our village. Sariel went on to tell me that they had promised him great power, something that the world had never seen, and he wanted me to go with him in his quest for this power. When I declined, he said, ‘Fine, if you want to be a weak mortal being, then so be it, but I am going to be the most powerful man that ever lived,’ and he flew away on his dragon.

“I didn’t see or hear from Sariel for a long time. Then one day some villagers came running to me and said that there was a wizard who was terrorizing them, and he was killing innocent people. I got up on my dragon and flew to confront this wizard, only to learn that he was my dearest friend Sariel, who had become unrecognizable by now. He referred to himself as ‘The Black Dragon’ and rode a fierce beast of a dragon that was pitch black.

“When I got there, I saw the wreckage that he had left behind—houses still burning, bodies lying all over the place, and not a single living soul in sight. Upon seeing me, Sariel asked, ‘Are you with me or are you going to fight me?’ I replied, ‘I am going to stop you. You have done enough harm.’ We fought each other on our dragons’ backs, and it seemed like I was gaining the upper hand. I saw him back away and fly away on his dragon. I followed him without realizing that this was a trap. I followed him to a deserted island, where once I landed, I could feel a certain sense of darkness. It was a place of great evil, and I could feel it.

“Sariel showed up out of nowhere and used his crossbow and killed my dragon. I could not match his power in this dark place, and here he was the master and God. He spared me my life and said, ‘I am going to destroy all of the dragon warriors until I am the only one. I spare you your life because of our friendship, but if you ever come in my way, I promise you I will kill you.’

“I came back home defeated and heartbroken. My dragon was gone . . . he was like my own son. When a dragon dies, the rider may live on, but when the rider dies, the dragon dies too. I wished it would be the opposite this time, but I had a family that I had to take care of. My wife Abigail and my daughter Gwen were the only reason for continuing to live. I took them and went far away so that they would not die at the hands of Sariel. I did not have any dragons after mine died, but my daughter Gwen somehow tamed a young dragon for herself, a young white dragon who she named Melchior. Many years passed, and my daughter was a very beautiful young woman now who I had raised myself after my wife died.

“One day, Gwen came rushing to me and said, ‘Father, you have to come and help. There is a young man wounded and lying in a pool of blood. I think he is going to die.’

“She knew that I was the only healer around. I rushed and brought the young man to my hut and made a potion and gave it to him. After a few days, the man recovered, and I was glad that my treatment worked, but little did I know that this man would bring me the greatest grief of my life. My daughter . . . My Gwen fell in love with him, but I told her that we belonged to a different tribe, and she could only marry someone from our tribe. She argued with me, but I did not agree with her.

“One day I came home and found that the young man was gone and so was my Gwen. She left me for her lover, and her dragon was nowhere to be seen. I was heartbroken and vowed never to seek her out, and she was as good as dead to me. Then one day I heard that the man I had treated was none other than Prince Richard of the kingdom of Xerteris, and that my Gwen was now his wife. After a few years, I heard that the kingdom was under attack, and the Black Dragon was behind the attack. I knew that the Black Dragon was none other than my old friend Sariel, who was hellbent on being the ruler of the whole world. News reached me that my little girl, my Gwen, had been killed and that there were traitors inside the palace who had helped Sariel.”

Alex jumped up and asked, “Who was the traitor?”

The old man replied, “There were many, but the main one was the king’s trusted general, Alistair.”

Alex was stupefied. “That is not possible. He saved my life after I was born, and he sent me away so that the soldiers would not kill me,” replied Alex.

The old man said, “No, my child. Your mother knew that something was not right, and so before she died, she gave you to her trusted maiden and told her to take you away and raise you as her own son and that no one should ever know who you really were. She also put her dragon necklace around the baby’s neck and told her that the necklace should never be removed. No one knew that the necklace originally belonged to my father, Maelock the Supreme, and there was a spell or a charm attached to the necklace that would keep the person wearing it safe from evil of all kinds.

“The maiden did exactly as she was told and took the child with her to her village and along with her husband raised you as her own son, but she didn’t know who was behind the killings. When she died, her husband took care of you, but even he didn’t know the traitors. The only thing he knew was that you came from the palace, and so when he knew that his time was up, he sent you back to the palace, not knowing that he was sending you back to the people who wanted you dead. My dear son . . . Alistair is pure evil and is an agent of Sariel. He will do anything for his master, and you have to be very careful.”

Alex felt a whole slew of emotions running through his mind. He could not comprehend what was going on. This was too much for him, and he needed to step out for a little while.

After a few hours, Alex came back inside and asked the old man, “How did you know that I was at the palace?”

The old man replied, “My Gwen appeared to me two nights ago in a dream and told me about you and pleaded with me to help you.”

Alex replied, “I can fight this Black Dragon, and I will kill him. Will you fight with me?”

The old man replied, “My dear child, I don’t have the strength to fight the Black Dragon. He is too powerful for you and me. We can’t do it.”

Alex was dejected and said, “So you are weak and a coward. He killed your people, your dragon, your daughter, and you are still hiding from him . . . You are an absolute disgrace. I don’t want to see your face. I despise you.”

With that, Alex walked away and spent the night somewhere down in the valley. In the morning when he woke up, Alex felt sorry for all the things he had called his grandfather and climbed up the mountain, planning to apologize to him. When he reached the top and went inside the tent, Alex saw that his grandfather was...
