Crossing the Land: The Journey
By Bobby Crossland
In a time when faith was tested and love was the compass, Robert and Misty set out on a journey that would change not only their lives but the hearts of all they met along the way. Through forests and rivers, storms and seasons, they walked a path guided by God's unseen hand-learning that every trial was a step closer to His promise.
As they travel westward in search of a new beginning, their bond deepens through hardship and hope. With every mile, they discover that faith is not simply a destination, but a journey-one that endures through loss, forgiveness, and the light of redemption.
Filled with heartfelt moments, enduring love, and divine purpose, Crossing the Land: The Journey is a story of courage, faith, and the beauty of God's guiding grace.

Chapter 1: A Meeting in Big City
The morning sunlight streamed through the windows of Misty’s home, casting a warm golden glow across the polished wooden floors. Terri ran into the house, her excitement impossible to hide. “Misty! Get ready to go with me,” she called breathlessly. “Rebecca said her son Robert just returned to town, and I want you to meet him!”
Levi, seated at the breakfast table, glanced up inquisitively. “What’s causing all the excitement in the house?”
Misty let out a gentle sigh, tucking a strand of dark hair behind her ear. “Mom said… some guy named Robert has returned to town, and she wants me to meet him.” Levi’s eyes lit up with curiosity. “That’s a great idea, Misty. Luke’s son—he was in the war, wasn’t he? Robert sounds like a fantastic young man. I’ve heard he’s received many medals and awards for his service.”
Terri clapped her hands and said, “Let’s just grab anything, Misty, so you’re prepared for Robert to meet you.”
Misty’s lips pressed into a thin line. She didn’t feel any excitement about meeting this Robert— whoever he was. However, she knew this was important to her parents, so she agreed. They climbed into the carriage and headed toward the tailor shop together.
The streets of Big City buzzed with morning energy. Horse-drawn carriages clattered across the cobblestones, merchants hollered from their stalls, and the smell of fresh bread from the bakery blended with the earthy scent of the streets. Misty sat quietly, watching the city wake up, her
thoughts wandering. She wondered what kind of person Robert was and whether he was just another stranger her parents wanted her to meet.
When they arrived at the tailor shop, Terri saw Rebecca standing in the doorway, waiting patiently. Levi brought the carriage to a stop, and Terri jumped out first, urging Misty after her.
Come on, Misty! I want you to meet Robert—hurry up!
Misty followed hesitantly, her steps slow and her expression guarded. Inside, the shop smelled of fresh fabric, thread, and a faint scent of polish from the counters. Behind the main counter, a young man with blonde hair, tall and muscular, was wrapping up helping a customer. There was a quiet strength in his posture and calm confidence that Misty couldn’t ignore.
“Calm down, Terri. It’s only my son, Robert. Misty will meet him,” Rebecca said softly.
Robert looked toward the newcomers. His eyes caught Misty’s, and in that brief moment, she felt a flutter of something unexplainable, but she quickly pushed it down.
Rebecca introduced them: “Son, I want you to meet Misty, Levi, and Terri’s only child.”
Misty forced a polite smile, standing stiffly. Robert, sensing her hesitance, approached the counter with a friendly charm. “I see you don’t look thrilled to be here,” he said softly.
“How can you tell?” Misty asked, surprised.
He replied with a slight grin, saying, “Just by the look in your eyes, your posture, your very aura,” and then added, “Call me Robert.”
Misty raised an eyebrow, but the tension started to relax. Robert leaned casually against the counter, watching her with curiosity. “My parents and your parents probably want us to meet, maybe even date eventually, but let’s be friends first. That’s how it should start.”
He then did something unexpected—he flapped his arms like a bird and circled the counter. Misty couldn’t help but giggle; it was the first real laugh she’d let out that morning.
“You’re embarrassing us both,” she whispered with a smile. “Get down before our mothers see.”
“I’m just… eradicating bugs from the floor,” he said, bowing theatrically. Their laughter echoed through the shop, blending with the faint hum of the morning city outside.
After a few more lighthearted moments and several months of dating, Misty and Robert stepped outside. The cool air of the city felt refreshing as they walked toward the quiet park nearby. The morning sunlight danced across the cobblestones, casting a warm glow that signaled a new day.
Robert crouched as if about to pick up a stone, but instead, he took out a small box from his pocket and opened it to show a shiny ring. “Misty… will you marry me?”
Misty’s eyes widened. “As long as you get off your knees and ask me properly,” she teased. Robert stood, smiled, and asked again. Misty nodded, her heart swelling with joy. They hugged, sealing the moment with a kiss, and headed off to share the news with their parents.
Misty and Robert strolled through the park, their hands lightly touching with a shy familiarity. The trees were starting to change, their leaves showing the first signs of autumn—burnt orange, amber, and deep crimson. A gentle breeze whispered through the branches, carrying the scent of
fallen leaves and freshly turned earth. Misty felt a sense of peace she hadn’t realized she was missing.
“So… your parents were really eager for us to meet, huh?” she asked, her voice gentle, playful, but filled with curiosity.
Robert chuckled, gently squeezing her hand. “Yes. They’ve heard so much about you. But honestly, I’m glad. It gives us a chance to get to know each other without the rush.”
Misty nodded, her eyes trailing the path ahead. “I… I guess I was a little nervous. Meeting someone your parents insist on, it can be… overwhelming.”
“I get it,” Robert said. “I was nervous too. But you know, some things in life aren’t meant to be rushed. We need to take the steps, one at a time.” His eyes shined with sincerity that made Misty’s heart flutter.
They reached a quiet fountain in the middle of the park. Water danced and sparkled in the morning sunlight, forming tiny rainbows that seemed to hover in the air. Robert leaned on the edge of the fountain, his gaze thoughtful.
“I’ve been away for quite some time,” he admitted. “There’s so much I’ve missed about this city… and life itself.”
Misty tilted her head and asked, “Where exactly have you been during your absence?”
“Traveling… learning… working with different people,” he said vaguely. “But I’m back now, and I want to make the time I’ve missed count. Starting with today.”
Misty smiled, feeling warmth spread in her chest. She could sense the honesty in his words, the way he carried himself—not just with confidence, but with care.
As the morning went on, they wandered through the park, sharing whispers about their lives, hopes, and small, personal dreams. Misty found herself laughing more easily than she had in months. Robert’s relaxed humor and gentle curiosity made her feel understood in a way she hadn’t expected.
Eventually, they went back to the carriage, where Terri was nearly bouncing with excitement. “So? So? How was he?” she asked.
Misty chuckled softly. “He’s… nice. Kind, funny… and a little dramatic.”
Robert grinned. “And she’s… thoughtful, clever, and full of surprises,” he added, looking at Misty.
Levi, standing nearby, nodded in approval. “I think this meeting went better than we could have hoped.”
The carriage rolled through the streets of Big City, heading toward the inn where Robert was staying. Misty’s mind was buzzing with the morning’s events, and a gentle anticipation settled over her. Something about Robert felt different, reassuring. It was as if she had known him longer than she actually had, as if the universe had quietly been waiting for this meeting.
At the inn, they were warmly welcomed. The innkeeper, a friendly woman with a welcoming smile, guided them to a cozy parlor where they could sit and talk more comfortably. Robert took Misty’s hand again, leading her to a quiet corner near the window.
He asked, his voice sincere, “Tell me something true about yourself—something you’ve never shared with anyone before.”
Misty pondered this, her eyes drifting toward the window where sunlight shimmered on the floor. “I… I guess I’ve always been afraid of not being enough,” she softly admitted. “Not being the person people expect me to be.”
Robert gently squeezed her hand. “Misty, I think you are enough. More than enough. And the people who truly matter will see that, even if it takes...
