The novel ends with Carter longing to return to her. Blending adventure, romance, and science fiction, A Princess of Mars helped define early space opera and inspired later writers and filmmakers, including those of Star Wars and Avatar.

Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875–1950) was an American novelist best known for creating Tarzan and the Barsoom series. His imaginative worlds combined adventure, heroism, and early science fiction. Burroughs's vivid storytelling made him one of the 20th century's most popular pulp fiction writers, influencing modern fantasy and sci-fi genres.
